Education and crime rates in Ukraine: facts for the period of 2016 – 10 months 2022

The wartime period has put on the agenda a very interesting aspect concerned with educational background of offenders. A percentage of offenders with professional (technical) education for the period of ten months of 2022 is the same as compared with 2021 while a percentage of offenders with university degree increased to the level of 13,73 %.

Moreover, for the period of 2016 – 2022 there is a trend of increasing of proportion of offenders with university degree.

In contrast, for the period of 2016 – 2022 there is a trend of decreasing of proportion of offenders without any education.

The war period has brought to the fore a very interesting aspect related to the education of offenders.

The percentage of offenders with vocational (technical) education in the first ten months of 2022 remained unchanged compared to 2021, while the share of offenders with higher education increased to 13.73%.

In addition, between 2016 and 2022, there has been a trend towards an increase in the proportion of offenders with higher education.

On the other hand, between 2016 and 2022, there has been a trend towards a decrease in the proportion of offenders without any education.
